The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed.”

Kyra’s Approach to Counselling

I believe in a collaborative approach to therapy to assist people in understanding their interactional patterns, emotional reactions, thoughts and feelings.

We all feel, experience and express things differently. As such, my approach is integrative, flexible and dynamic, drawing from a variety of counselling modalities and is tailored to suit the needs of the individual or couple. It is of utmost importance to me that my clients feel respected, supported and have an experience of genuine empathy and care.

“Emotional dependency is not immature or pathological;
it is our greatest strength.”

Sue Johnson

What to Expect in Couples Therapy

“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.”

Carl Rogers

Relationship and Couples therapy has been shown to vastly improve the quality of our interpersonal relationships. It involves meeting regularly with a counsellor to explore relationship dynamics and recognise and resolve conflicts. Couple counselling is not suitable for couples where there is interpersonal violence (emotional or physical), or serious issues of power and control.

It is recommended that clients begin with weekly sessions and we can then decide what works best for you.

Each session runs for approximately 50 minutes and can be conducted via zoom or face-to-face. Unfortunately clients are unable to utilise medicare rebates for couples therapy at this time.

Please contact me for more information about counselling costs and practice.

About Kyra

I have always been interested in the many ways in which we communicate with each other, the importance of our interpersonal relationships and the diversity and richness of the human experience. I am a great believer in the power of genuine empathy, kindness and humour and am honoured to be allowed into the inner worlds of others.

I am a trained counsellor, with a Masters of Counselling, specialising in couples and a Graduate Diploma of Psychology from Swinburne University. I am also a member of the national peak body and professional association for counsellors and psychotherapists in Australia, PACFA.
